Not just extreme spinning - Ann - Our Plinthess of Darkness

Hi Everyone

Antony Gormley: One&Other

Many months ago I applied to take part in Antony Gormley's One&Other art project on the 4th plinth in Trafalgar Sq, little thinking I would be one of the 2,400 chosen out of a total of nearly 34,000 who had applied on line for this public art project. The project runs for 100days. Each plinther is alloted one hour. There was no brief. I decided as an artist to become an artwork. My performance on Sept 14th between 10-11pm was based on metamorphosis- through honouring unknown heroes of the past whose their lives and actions have determined our country and who we are and in turn effect our futures.First I was a living statue who then knitted herself into a cocoon and then emerged as the future.
It was a fantastic experience. The team at Archichoke running the project were so supporting, encouraging and friendly. I felt cherished. Before the alloted hour I a had a 20 min interview which recorded for the archives of the Wellcome Trust and some photographs taken. Then out into the darkness on a 'cherry picker' to the 22ft high plinth. I declined the offer of a supporting probe that could attached to the narrow top of the plinth. The small crowd gathered were great and most styed throughout those 60 minutes. I think the adrenaline kept me going, until near the end when realisation of the enormity of the experience kicked in ,also I started feeling cold as I had by then emerged from my lovely wooly cocoon and starting feeling cold. This was soon forgotten when I was taken back to the reception area and introduced to the artist himself Antony Gormley. He had just popped down to see how things were going. Over a cuppa tea we discussed his project and I told him about my work on the Black mountain. He was very impressed that we had spun nearly 12 miles for it and had a feel of the wool.
What a day to remember. I still can' t believe I volunteered to go up there.
Part of the recording was featured as one of the top three highlights of the week in the Sky Arts programme on Friday 18th Sept. and would you believe it I am a page 3 girl, albeit in the South Wales Evening Post!
I must thank the Guild membersfor all their good wishes and support.

Extreme Weather -Navy Days 2008 - Deep Sea Spinning!

What a weekend at the Navy Days... Between the weather and the start of a new craft - extreme spinning!!
I was NOT on sloe rum today.
I have no excuse.
It just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Grateful thanks to the Historical Diving Society, who were such good sports!
